Programme

We begin at the House of Volcanoes, an eco-friendly, cob-built (clay, straw, and water) structure shaped by volunteers and rooted in the living geology of the prehistoric Hațeg Island. Here, you’ll dive into the story of the Tethys Sea, dwarf dinosaurs, and the volcanoes that once towered over this land 70 million years ago all told through hands-on exhibits and outdoor learning. Next, we head out on a guided hike to the botanical reserve known as “The Bottomless Swamp” (Tăul fără Fund), a place wrapped in local myths and scientific wonders. This hidden peat bog is home to sundews (Drosera rotundifolia), tiny carnivorous plants that sparkle like dewdrops while luring unsuspecting insects. A glacial relict from the Ice Age, the bog is a sanctuary of rare biodiversity and a symbol of nature’s resilience. Along the way, we’ll search for butterflies, listen to birdsong, and reflect on the importance of allowing natural processes to thrive with minimal human intervention.
