About Wilder Places and Rewilding Europe B.V.
Wilder Places is an online marketplace dedicated to rewilding- and nature-positive experiences and tourism. The platform was initiated and is operated by Rewilding Europe. We are the leading European organization working to restore wild nature and promote nature-driven economies. Rewilding Europe manages the Wilder Places marketplace to connect people with unique rewilding destinations and experiences provided by local guides, accommodations and tour operators — from tracking wolves and bears in ancient forests to exploring free-flowing rivers and rich river deltas. When you choose our platform, you’re not just enjoying nature — you’re contributing to its restoration. Your journey supports the return of wildlife and sustainable livelihoods in some of Europe's most stunning wild areas.
To provide these services, we process personal data. In this Privacy Policy, we explain what personal data we collect, how we process it, and why. We comply with all applicable data protection laws, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). For more information, please visit the websites of the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens) or the European Commission’s GDPR page.
Rewilding Europe B.V., located at Mgr Suyslaan 4, 6564BV Heilig Landstichting, The Netherlands, is responsible for processing personal data of users — both guests (tourists/travelers) and hosts (tour operators, accommodations, guides) — as well as individuals who create an account or show interest in our services.
What is personal data?
Personal data refers to any information that relates to an identified or identifiable natural person. This includes details that can be used to recognize you, such as your name, (email) address, phone number, date of birth, photo, and/or bank account number.
Data we collect from guests and hosts
We collect or receive the following data, either directly from you or during the use of our services:
- Name, email address, physical address, gender, phone number, and business name (if applicable): We use this information to execute the agreement (such as offering demand and/or supply) and for related communication. These data are also used for administrative purposes, such as registering/accepting and executing a booking or receiving a donation for rewilding areas. Additionally, these personal data are processed for contact moments with Wilder Places or Rewilding Europe—such as via social media channels or other communication methods.
- Date of Birth: Your date of birth is processed to determine whether you are of legal age (18+) and thus can independently make or offer a booking. If you are a minor, you need permission from a parent/guardian to book a trip, thereby entering into an agreement. Also to support identity verification for regulatory compliance and fraud prevention.
- Profile Photo (optional): The profile photo adds a personal or professional dimension to your account as both guest and host. Adding a profile photo is optional. You can provide it yourself and link it to your account.
- Bank Account Number (IBAN): When a payment is made via the website, we automatically receive your payment details. We also process your IBAN number when you make a donation for the ecology that Rewilding Europe contributes to.
- Preferences for Email/SMS Communications: You can indicate whether you're interested in receiving the latest offers, events, or news-related emails. If you do not create an account for Wilder Places or Rewilding, you can still receive the newsletter. In that case, we process your name and/or email address.
Legal basis for processing personal data
Rewilding Europe processes your personal data in accordance with the legal grounds set out in Article 6 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
One of the main legal grounds we rely on is the necessity of processing your data for the performance of a contract. This applies when you make use of our Wilder Places or rewilding platform — whether to search, book or review an experience or offer one. In these cases, we must process your data to enable the interaction between guests and hosts and to carry out bookings, payments, and communication effectively.
In addition, we may process your personal data based on our legitimate interests. For example, we use your data to analyze and improve our services or to inform you about new offerings and updates relevant to Wilder Places or Rewilding Europe. We may also send service-related emails or SMS messages, such as changes to bookings or terms, to ensure you’re kept up to date. You have the right to object to the use of your data for these purposes. Every promotional email we send includes an “opt-out” link that allows you to unsubscribe from further marketing communications at any time.
We may also process your data based on your (explicit) consent. This applies when you agree to receive our newsletter or accept cookies on our website. With your consent, we can provide personalized content, offers, and advertisements. You can withdraw your consent at any time — for example, by unsubscribing from emails for the newsletter.
Finally, we process personal data of minors (under 16 years of age) only with written permission from a parent or legal guardian. We do not process sensitive or special categories of personal data from minors under the GDPR.
Newsletter
Our newsletter contains various interesting information and offers. We send this newsletter via email and/or apps that use the phone number (WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram). Based on your profile, we try to tailor the content as much as possible to your interests and inspire you for a new rewilding journey.
To send the newsletter, we use your first and last name and your email address. We only send the newsletter if you have given consent.
If you no longer wish to receive the newsletter, you can unsubscribe at any time free of charge via the unsubscribe link at the bottom of the newsletter—the so-called "opt-out."
Retention period
We retain your data as long as you use our services and/or are subscribed to our newsletter. When you no longer use the account environment or unsubscribe from the newsletter, your data will be deleted. Otherwise, your data will be retained as long as your account remains active. We periodically review inactive accounts and may delete or anonymize data after a certain period (e.g. after two years).
Exceptions are data that we must retain longer because the law requires it or due to our legitimate interest. For example, tax laws require us to retain certain financial data for seven years. Information about the handling of questions or complaints is retained for up to two years after resolution.
How do we secure your personal data?
We have taken appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal data against unlawful processing.
Sharing with third parties
We will not share your personal data with third parties without your explicit consent unless legally required. However, there are a few exceptions.
Multiple parties are involved in Wilder Places or Rewilding Europe's services, acting as processors. These processors perform certain parts of our services and help us fulfill our obligations to you. We have concluded processor agreements with these processors where necessary, clearly outlining which personal data they may process and for which specific purposes.
For data subjects whose personal data are processed, Rewilding Europe remains the primary contact for questions or concerns regarding data processing.
These processing activities include:
- Systems for managing the supply and demand of services;

- Ensuring GDPR standards for our online environment.
- Collecting and storing email addresses for sending newsletters or account notifications.
- Collecting and analyzing website usage data through analytics providers (e.g., tracking user interactions, device/browser data, IP addresses).
- Collecting and analyzing website usage data through analytics providers (e.g., tracking user interactions, device/browser data, IP addresses).
- Systems for map-based search (enabling map functionality).
Apart from sharing data with those processors, we in principle will not provide your data to other parties unless legally required and permitted or because of consent given.
An example is the police requesting (personal) data from us as part of an investigation. In such a case, we are obliged to cooperate and provide this data. In some cases, you have given us permission to share your browsing behavior and preferences with third parties. Based on this consent, we can show you targeted information or offers when you visit an external website. In such cases, we only share your IP address and no other personal data.
Personal data are only shared with parties outside the European Union if they comply with the Data Privacy Framework and this is relevant for the execution of the agreement by Rewilding Europe. For more information, see the following link
