Cerna mountains experience - meet the alpine landscape!
For hiking and nature enthusiasts, a hike on unmarked and wild trails is an unforgettable experience! The Cerna Mountains are an oasis of tranquility in the southwestern Carpathians. A vast area of old forests with a soaring alpine landscape. On this hike we will climb above the forests to the base of the alpine region from where we will be able to admire the entire ridge of the Cernei Mountains all the way to the Tarcu and Godeanu Mountains. We will reach 1450 m alt on a picturesque plateau. We start from the small mountain village of Zmogotin and climb steadily through wide meadows sprinkled with old willows, then through cool forests to the heart of the mountains. Being an unmarked wild trail, you will have the chance to occasionally see the phenomenon of transhumance - where shepherds cross the mountains with their flocks of sheep - an old Romanian tradition that is still preserved today. You will have the opportunity to take many scenic photos during this rewilding experience!
