Țarcu Mountains Experience - Old Village scenic trails

For hiking and nature enthusiasts, a hike on unmarked and wild trails is an unforgettable experience. We will depart from the gorgeous mountain village Sat Bătrân (Old Village) and climb the surrounding high hills where we will be able to reconnect with wild nature like hundreds of years ago. This hike will offer a superb alternation of meadows, glades and plateaus, with portions of dense forest, old manors, orchards, openings towards the ridge of the Țarcu and Cerna mountains and the surrounding valleys dotted with villages, old settlements and streams with clear waters. Being an unmarked wild trail, you will have the chance to occasionally see the phenomenon of transhumance - where shepherds cross the mountains with their flocks of sheep - an old Romanian tradition that is still preserved today. You will have the opportunity to take many scenic photos during this rewilding experience!

How your experience helps rewilding efforts

By guiding people through the wild, unmarked trails of Sat Bătrân, I help raise awareness about the importance of preserving and reconnecting with natural landscapes. This hike promotes respectful interaction with nature, supports sustainable tourism, and highlights traditional, low-impact practices like transhumance. Through immersive experiences, participants develop a personal connection to rewilded areas—fostering appreciation, advocacy, and long-term support for conservation and ecological restoration in the region.
